toyota center (less than 10 blocks)
located 10 blocks from alden-houston, the toyota center is the home arena of the nba’s houston rockets, the ahl’s houston aeros, concerts and wwe events. the eight-year-old venue sits within walking distance or a short car ride away from our downtown houston hotel. the rockets, who are perennial playoff contenders, regularly host a variety of western conference stars from other teams, including kobe bryant and dirk nowitzki. the houston aeros, longstanding members of the american hockey league, are affiliated with the minnesota wild of the nhl.
reliant stadium (7 miles / 20 minutes by light rail)
one of the nfl’s newest stadiums, reliant stadium is home to the houston texans and a past host venue of the super bowl. the $352 million glass-fronted building is topped by the nfl’s first retractable roof. reliant stadium is located 7.5 miles from our hotel and is accessible via a 20-minute light rail ride or a 15 minute drive down highway 288. Reliant stadium was also home to the 2011 men’s ncaa final four tournament, and will hold the tournament again in 2016. In addition to many sports played in reliant, the stadium is also home to some of the biggest music concerts in Houston.
robertson stadium at university of houston (3.4 miles)
robertson stadium is where the university of houston football and houston dynamo soccer teams play their home games. known as “the rob,” this historic stadium is located five miles south of downtown, the location of the Alden hotel. the houston cougars football team has been one of the most successful in the nation the past three seasons under coach kevin sumlin, and the houston dynamo won back-to-back mls titles in 2006 and 2007.
