downtown aquarium (less than 6 blocks)

the downtown aquarium is a six-acre site containing 500,000 gallons of tank space and 200 species of aquatic life from around the world. the eight-year-old facility celebrates houston’s proximity to the gulf of mexico by showcasing species native to the gulf as well as the louisiana swamp and rainforest rivers. the downtown aquarium is located six blocks west of our hotel in downtown houston, just across the preston street bridge.


 

discovery green (less than 9 blocks)

discovery green is among the newest of houston attractions. this brand new downtown park is fast becoming one of the city’s most popular gathering places, hosting a farmers market, musicals and live music. the 12-acre space includes dog runs, a lake, gardens, a performance stage and public art. our hotel is nine blocks away from discovery green, which is located across the street from the George R Brown convention Center.


 

houston zoo (6.6 miles / 8 minutes via light rail)

the houston zoo is located in hermann park, a brief eight-minute light rail ride away from alden-houston. one of the top houston attractions for families or animal enthusiasts, the houston zoo features traditional habitats such as the reptile and amphibian building and the asian elephant habitat alongside the nearly new african forest exhibit.


 

nasa’s johnson space center (22.4 miles)

the lyndon b. Johnson space center is a must-see for anyone interested in science, technology, or american history. run by nasa, the 100-building complex functions as the home base of the u.s. astronaut program. our hotel in downtown houston is located approximately 22 miles from the space center, which sits just southeast of houston near the city of Kemah and the famous Kemah Boardwalk.


 

Kemah Boardwalk (35 miles)

The Kemah Boardwalk is located about 35 miles from downtown Houston and is open daily. The Boardwalk is a family friendly stop, filled with rides, various amusements, and shops. The Boardwalk is also home to a variety of restaurants, bound to please any palette. This Houston attraction is also host to various events year round.
